With the support and partnership of Riverside Minor Hockey and The Assist Group, Take A Shot Hockey is a community based program that offers free (no cost to participants) hockey skills training and game play development for youth between 7 and 12 years of age who have definite barriers of entry into the sport.
Take A Shot provides learn to play hockey opportunities to youth from underserved or marginalized communities or to individuals who may really want to play and require a chance at legitimate participation, but typical or traditional youth hockey programming may not be able to adequately provide realistic initial accommodation for these individuals.
Take A Shot is a first step gateway program that aims to prepare and then graduate participants (children, parents or adult caregivers) into traditional Minor Hockey programming such as House League participation for players, and into adult Activity Leader roles (Coaches / Team Trainers / Team Managers) for parents and caregivers.
Take A Shot aims to:
• Provide free access, opportunity and equipment outfitting for children
• Educate adult caregivers in sport activity leadership and coaching, creating useable skills and realistic frames of reference
• Create a gateway or step up to traditional minor hockey programs for those needing help to feel more confident with skill sets and with the ability to play.
Take A Shot’s goal is to train both youth and adults and provide minor sport organizations such as Riverside Minor Hockey with future players, coaches and activity leaders.
